A Couple of Rare Ones

In 1980 the celebrations marking the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Liverpool & Manchester were the main event of the year and when I went to Liverpool Road station in Manchester for its opening on 2nd August the replica 'Rocket' was in steam and giving rides to the assembled dignitaries up and down a short length of track. If this is anything to go by, despite the fairground atmosphere, 'Rocket' would have been well worth recording on the main line as you can hear in this mono track!

On 11th November 1978 I spent a day at York where it was very foggy. Late in the afternoon 6115 'Scots Guardsman' heard from the end of Platform 15 departs into the fog heading west with one of the only two trains it ever worked on the main line. Despite the limited quality of this mono recording I have included it since I may never get the chance to record a Scot again. But then you never know!
