GW Thrash!
One of my regular visitors wanted to know why,
among the recordings made during GW 150 in 1985 that I had included
in the 10th Edition of the steamsounds web site I had not used a recording
from what he thought was the best performance of the GW150 event.
The particular run in question was the Red Dragon on 20th July 1985
with Castle 7029 'Clun Castle' and my corespondent asked that, if I
had any particularly good recordings of this run, how about including
one on the next CD?
Those of you who are either regular visitors or know me will be aware
that I am not the Great Western Railway's greatest fan! However, even
I would admit that the performance that we experienced from the Castle
on that day was excellent.
The high spot of that particular run for me was the departure from Craven
Arms after a photo stop.
You can read about this track in the notes for steamsounds Volume 2
on
this page but suffice it to say that in less than 5 minutes from
the start we were doing 70 mph!
The complete recording can be heard on steamsounds
Volume 2 audio CD, details
here.
