Bonfire Night B1

On 5th November 2005 the ex LNER B1 4-6-0 61264 worked a train to Blackpool and back running over Copy Pit in each direction.
The weather forecast for Bonfire Night was for a wet morning with a drier afternoon and evening. In view of the forecast we decided to give the outward run a miss and go out in the evening for a recording in the dark of the B1 climbing the gradient with the addition of the sound of fireworks to add to the atmosphere.
As usual the forecasters got it wrong and we had a dry, occasionally sunny morning and a wet and windy afternoon and evening!
As the recording begins the B1 can be heard working hard on the gradient with 8 well filled coaches behind the tender.
Having passed the loco is eased for the restriction through Holme Tunnel but can then be heard continuing all the way to the summit at Copy Pit.
Well worth getting wet for!

More from the Worth Valley

Demonstrating freight trains are often a feature of Enthusiast Galas on the Keighley & worth Valley Railway and, on the morning of 14th October 2005, the first day of a 3 day event the ex LMS Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 is heard with a short freight train departing from Damems Loop for Oxenhope.

The next train up to Oakworth was a two coach vintage train hauled by the Lancashire & Yorkshire 0-6-0 957 which can be heard departing from Damems Loop having crossed the Super D heading for Keighley.
With the G2 out of the way 957 accelerates its short train briskly on the rising gradient towards Oakworth.

Later in the day 957 worked another freight train this time banked by the Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241.
Having crossed the Super D and 'City of Truro' in Damems Loop and with tokens exchanged the freight, consisting of 12 wagons and two brake vans, can depart and the two locos make a fine sound on the gradient towards Oakworth.

Another feature of Gala events is the running of a non-stop train and, during the afternoon of Saturday 15th October BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T 80002 piloted by the GWR 4-4-0 3440 'City of Truro' were in charge of a train which ran non-stop from Keighley to Haworth.
As this recording begins the pair are heard passing slowly through Damems Loop and collecting the token.
Earlier in the day 80002's cylinder cock had been stuck open but, fortunately, has closed again and the pair make a fine sound climbing away from the loop.
